Pro Life

Introduction

One of our madates is to promote a biblical worldview and another is to call our Nation back to its Christian heritage.  These aspects come together in this series of articles on Pro-life.

Here at Christian Spectrum we believe passionately in the value of each and every life.  The sanctity of life is intrinsic to our Christian beliefs and the basic principle that every human being has destiny, value and worth written over their life, from the very moment of their conception.

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations (Jeremiah 1:5).

As written in Jeremiah we know that God has a divinely appointed plan and a purpose for each child conceived throughout the ages.  Each and every child is valued; they are a precious son and daughter loved by him.

However, in recent decades human life has come under serious attack through the abortion legalisation.  A veil seems to have been drawn over people’s eyes so they do not see life in the womb as life at all, rather a mass of tissue.  The active work of the abortion providers has been to de-sensitise and de-humanise the very wording surrounding the act of taking a baby’s life, sadly resulting in abortion now being common-place.  'The result has been a curious avoidance of the scientific fact, which everyone really knows, that human life begins at conception and is continuous whether intra- or extra-uterine until death.' (Abortion SH p66.)

Our aim is to reintroduce people to the value of life in a mother’s womb – a baby conceived and knit together by God in a unique way.  Part of this aim is to help men and women to view their unborn babies differently and to feel the protective, passionate love for them that God does already.  In a world where it has been statistically proven that 'the most dangerous place for anyone to be, with regard to the preservation of one’s life, is in the womb of one’s mother' (Abortion, SH p50) we as a people are called to be a voice for the voiceless.   At Christian Spectrum we are constantly looking for ways in which we can be that voice and to help promote life not death.

My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be (Psalm 139:15-16).

We believe the root of the problem may be how our children are increasingly being taught in the education system worldwide.  'There is a significant trend in education today to teach children that there are no values, that there is no right, that there is no wrong, that there is no God, that man is his God' (Abortion: The Silent Holocaust p79).  When moral values are abandoned the Biblical principles that were intrinsic to our society get lost.  This is a key issue in recognising how the value of a baby in the womb, of whichever gestation, has been reduced to nothing.

Christian Concern: ‘Choose Life’ Conference

Thursday 27 October 2011

Christian Concern hosted an inspiring day and provided challenging information regarding the nature of foetal development and the facts about how abortion is carried out.  They also provided devastating statistics concerning the extent to which abortions are being carried out in the UK.

The event included a public demonstration outside the Houses of Parliament, Westminster, to commemorate the passing of the Abortion Act in the UK exactly 44 years ago and to give an opportunity to repent on behalf of our nation for the number of abortions that have subsequently taken place.

Dr Peter Saunders of the Christian Medical Fellowship gave the following statistics:

i    43 million abortions each year are carried out globally

In the UK:

ii   7 million abortions performed in the 40 years since the Abortion Act, 10% of the current population.  This is in contrast to falling adoption figures (just 60 babies were adopted last year because of lack of availability).

ii   Abortion is legal up to 24 weeks, but legal up to ‘full term’ for babies with disabilities.

iii  90% of Down’s syndrome babies are now aborted.

iv   600 abortions are performed each day.

v   3000 performed after the 24 week period.

vi   95% are performed between 7 and 20 weeks.

vii  Premature babies have been known to survive born at 22 or 23 weeks and 63% of MP’s support a reduction in the time limit of abortions.

viii In addition to the greater risk of mental health issues, women are more likely to miscarry future babies following an abortion.

ix   Abortion clinics make £60 million a year, taxable income, and 91% of abortions are funded by the NHS.  Just over half of these (58%) took place in independent sector under NHS contract.

x   The average age of women having abortions is between 18 and 19 years.

These statistics are alarming and we need to challenge the lies that our legislation is founded on, primarily that aborted babies are just a ‘clump of cells.’  Like Christian Concern, we believe that life is precious from the moment of conception and all have a right to be born, disabled or otherwise.

Women are told that they have the ‘right to choose,’ but in saying this we believe that we’re promoting a ‘culture of death’ in our country.  It has been shown that women are not given the facts about what really happens when they consent to an abortion.  Neither are they told the possible physical or emotional consequences of terminating a life in the womb.

Most people don’t seem to believe that abortion is of sufficient enormity to criminalise the act.  This is partly because most don’t know enough about pre-natal development or what abortion entails.  We have allowed ourselves to believe the lie that we are free to choose on this issue rather than realise that we are denying a God given right to life for all babies in the womb, irrespective of their stage of development.

The conference served to strengthen our commitment to support initiatives to promote life, and to see an end to abortion in the UK.

The sanctity of life is intrinsic to our Christian beliefs and the basic principle that every human being has destiny, value and worth written over their life, from the very moment of their conception . . .

Propaganda around Planned Parenthood

The truth is shocking – and diametrically opposed to the propaganda surrounding PP.  As we remarked in a previous blog, the scale of the baby-killing operation is a sign to us that the End of the Age is upon us . . .

We must recognise what (PP) illustrates.  On two occasions in biblical history Satan directed an attack on babies in an attempt to spurn God's purposes . . . PP has launched a full-scale attack on the up-coming generation . . .
